The preoccupation of Milonas family with the cultivation of the vineyards started in 1998 when the replanting of the 3.5 acres vineyard at “Chassani” took place, near Metochi. The specific vineyard dates at least before 1840, when the replanting of the vines was done with the method of artificial layers. During those days the disease filoxeras did not exist, but had remained as the main reason for the complete destruction of 99% of the vineyards in the area until the year of 1975, the “Chassani” vineyards among others. In 1998 the vineyard was replanted with different varieties, such as xinomavro, roditis, assyrtiko, moschato and limnio. Three years later the first wine of the family was produced and it was of an excellent quality.
In 2000 the small vineyard at “Pnevmatikou” was planted, at a slope near the road leading from Volos to Argalasti, right before the village. The varieties cultivated at “Pnevmatikou” are roditis, limnio and assyrtiko.
In 2009 the large vineyard of 10 acres at “Strivo” was created with three different varieties, assyrtiko (4 acres), merlot (5 acres) and muscat Hamburg (1 acre). Also the new winery of Milonas family was built in the village of Argalasti.

A few years ago a visitor coming to Argalasti for the first time did not hesitate to name it “Greece’s Tuscany” (The Tuscany of Greece).
The winery of Milonas family is situated in Argalasti, a hilly village of South Pelion. It is a small-scale wine making unit where grapes coming from the family’s vineyards of 25.2 acres are managed and vinified.
Focusing on the good quality of the grapes a gentle cultivation takes place which gives an amount of 650-750kgs per acre.
Our vineyards are planted with Greek varieties, such as retino, xinomavro and limnio. These red varieties blend well with the merlot variety, the flagship of red grapes. There are also about 300 muscat Hamburg, which complement the vinification of our rosé wines along with roditis.
The white wine is produced from a Greek variety of an excellent quality, named assyrtiko, which is known since antiquity and grows in our region with excellent results.
Every conscious winemaker must first of all be an equally good wine grower. That is why viticulture is actually a bet that he should win, aiming the excellent quality of the grapes.

The region
South Pelion is a place blessed by nature combining green mountains with traditional architecture of highland villages and the blue sea with coastal resorts and beaches of crystal clear waters, making it a particularly attractive tourist destination all year round.
At the "entrance" of South Pelion Argalasti is standing out, the famous historic village with its beautiful square and a tourist destination with old mansions and houses with flowering courtyards. The Girls School where the great poet Kostas Varnalis has taught, the Church of the Holy Apostles with the ornate marble spire and St. Nicholas Monastery in Paou are the main attractions.
Argalasti is a hilly village 41km. south of Volos and is the seat of the Municipality of South Pelion. Its geographical position is quite special, since it is built at a weighted average altitude of approximately 250m. and lies among two seas, the Aegean and the Pagasitic Gulf at en equal distance from each one of them. All these elements form a special micro-climate that greatly favors the cultivation of vineyards. We should add here the prevalence of soils full of clay.
